Jim Huston (jim@venturementors.biz) is the owner and founder of Venture Mentors, LLC, a for-profit consulting firm specializing in helping people with disabilities form and manage profitable small businesses and micro-enterprises. Established in 2004, Venture Mentors offers a wide array of business services including business plan development, business start-up support, feasibility studies, small business accounting, IT consultation, and ongoing business mentoring. Venture Mentors is based in Louisville, Kentucky but serves a national clientele. Venture Mentors is an approved vendor with numerous state vocational rehabilitation services agencies, but services are also engaged by state MR/DD agencies, state Mental Health agencies, as well as special self-employment demonstration projects funded by federal and state sources.
Jim is both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 20 years of experience in senior financial management and business consulting. He has significant understanding of the Social Security disability benefit programs and their associated work incentives and holds a certificate of completion for training required of SSA funded Benefits Planning Assistance and Outreach projects. He has a special talent for leveraging Social Security work incentives to capitalize small business start-up and is a nationally recognized expert in customizing business structures and accounting methods for small business owners who receive SSA disability benefits. Jim is also the parent of two adult children who experience disabilities.
